Surya Meditation:

the purpose of meditation is to discover the true Self

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eternalbliss :
1:12.    SELF:  the Self is
infinite-eternal-awareness-love-bliss.
Those are five words
pointing towards one awareness.
Awareness-love-bliss are not three,
they are one.
1:13.    The Self is
the background of awareness.
1:14.        Because almost all humans
are in the habit of looking outward
towards thoughts, the body, the world,
people, places, things, etc.,
it appears as though
the background of awareness (the Self)
wakes up in the morning
and goes to sleep at night.
1:15.    If one turns the attention
towards the background of awareness,
eventually it will be discovered that
the background of awareness is continuous.
1:16.        Because almost all humans
are in the habit of looking outward
towards thoughts, the body, the world,
people, places, things, etc.,
it appears as though
the background of awareness is limited.
1:17.    If the attention is turned
towards the awareness
that wakes up in the morning,
instead of towards
people, places, things, thoughts, etc.,
eventually it will be discovered that
that awareness is:
infinite-eternal-awareness-love-bliss.
1:18.    The background of awareness
that wakes up in the morning
is there during all the waking hours
until one goes to sleep at night.
1:19.        Thoughts come and go,
but the background of awareness
that is aware of the thoughts
is there during all the waking hours
and does not come and go.
1:20.    The background of awareness
is the true Self.
The ego is not the Self.  The Self is not the ego.  Some definitions of
the word Self as the word Self are used in this book are above in this
message.
Some definitions of the word ego as the word ego will be used in this
book are in previous messages.
The word "ego" and the word "imposter" are used synonymously in this
book.
Breath Meditation:
  1. Sit comfortably with spine erect ( on a meditation bench or cushion, cross legged on a mat, or on a chair). Make sure you have eliminated possible disturbances as much as possible (phone off, tell roommates not to disturb you with a meditating sign on your door, etc.)
  2. Begin to focus your attention on your breath.
  3. Breath normally, without controlling the depth or shallowness of the breath.
  4. When you become distracted by your thoughts, your body or outside noises, etc. return your attention to your breath.
  5. You can count (on every exhale) to 10, and then repeat, or simply mentally verbalize “inhaling” when inhaling and “exhaling” when exhaling, or you can purely focus on the nuances of each breath without any mental labeling.
Continue for at least 15 minutes. It is ideal to meditate once in the morning and once at night, every day if possible.
Huna/Law of Attraction/ New Thought/ Religious Science, etc.
The purpose of visualization is to gain control of the mind, become skilled in creating mental constructions, make contact with power forces (themselves the products of mind) and achieve higher states of consciousness...”
-John Blofeld, “The Tantric Mysticism of Tibet”
In order to change society, we must change our selves. Society is its members and their belief systems, a self-perpetuating pattern designed to preserve itself; but within us lies the urge to grow and change, to flow with evolution. This inner quality shows outwardly in individuals and groups who question social standards and refuse to accept tenets that limit individual self-actualization. It is not enough just to become aware that society is strangling and destroying individuals, we must understand how society does it, and recognize the part each of us plays in the process. Each of us perpetuates limiting beliefs by passing them on to others. As we become aware of these beliefs we can eliminate them and substitute others designates to bring about growth, progress and ultimate fulfillment.
And as we change our lives into satisfying and exciting adventures, we perceive the possibility of changing our society into one that is progressive and full of opportunities for all to achieve self-fulfillment.”
-”Huna: A Beginner's Guide”, p.187-188
Huna Manifestation:
You can manifest many things in your life with the following technique:
  1. State firmly what you want when you are in a happy, clear mood.
  2. Hold your concentration on the goal with a clear picture. See it in your mind's eye, and do not change the picture while working on it.
  3. Release all resistance and negativity within yourself to it.
  4. Make certain it does not affect other people [or animals].
  5. Feel that you already have it and visualize this state of being. Imagine how you would feel if you had money, had health, had energy, had success, etc. [It may help to try “remembering” the visualization, as though it already happened and you are remembering it, so that the feeling will more closely correspond to the vision without doubts being mixed in.]
  6. Gather man [vital energy] by deep breathing.
  7. Ask your Basic Self [Subconscious] to cooperate with you in bringing the mana to your High Self [Superconscious] in order to realize your goal.
  8. Never question how it will be given to you and never doubt that it will come to you.
  9. Do not tell anyone [who may be negative or discouraging] what you are working on. When you tell others that are not supportive, their negative feelings and doubts could affect the outcome.
  10. Know that there is an infinite supply of everything you need in the universe and that you can draw it to you. [That doesn't mean infinite material resources; over-consumption/consumerism is harming the planet].
Faith is the head chemist of the mind. When faith is blended with the vibration of thought, the subconscious mind instantly picks up the vibration, translates it into its spiritual equivalent, and transmits it to Infinite Intelligence, as in the case of prayer.”
-Napolean Hill, “Think and Grow Rich”, p.66
[Y]ou may benefit, by passing on to your subconscious mind, any desire which you wish translated into its physical, or monetary equivalent, in a state of expectancy or belief that the transmutation will actually take place. Your belief, or faith, is the element which determines the action of your subconscious mind.”
    -p.69
In order to take control of our lives and accomplish something of lasting value, sooner or later we need to learn to Believe. We don't need to shift our responsibilities onto the soldiers of some deified Spiritual Superman, or sit around and wait for Fate to come knocking at the door. We simply need to believe in the power that's within us, and use it. When we do that, and stop imitating others and competing against them, things begin to work for us.”
-Benjamin Hoff, “The Tao of Pooh”, p.120
Below are meditation practices that are very effective in fostering personal transformation. By redirecting your attention inward, one can avoid becoming continually distracted and agitated by the outside world, so that, in turn, the outside world can be transformed through practices leading to visualization and manifestation of a better world. The more you are aware of and connected to your Higher Self, the more effective the manifestation of whatever it is that you want in life will be. In order to make that contact, one's concentration skill will most likely need to be improved first. An ethical, mindful and meditative life is necessary in order to make progress with concentration-building practices, by removing karmic disturbances from the mind, which is needed to gain insight and understanding. Thorough guidelines for such a way of living is described expertly by the Buddha's Noble Eightfold Path; a more succinct explanation can be found in “The Fundamentals to Path to Self-Realization” from the Hindu Tradition, the “Five Precepts” from the Buddhist tradition and some of the “Ten Commandments” (excluding those referring to “God”, for its lack of practical use).
Fundamentals to a Path to Self-Realization”
  1. Vegetarianism
  2. No Intoxicants
  3. Morality
  4. Meditation
The Five Precepts
  1. No Intoxicants
  2. No Stealing
  3. No Sexual Misconduct
  4. No Lying
  5. No Violence
The 10 Commandments” (reduced to 6)
  1. No Killing
  2. No Lying
  3. No Sexual Misconduct
  4. No Stealing
  5. No Coveting (of anything belonging to someone else)
  6. Honor Your Parents
The more meditation and morality is practiced, the more likely Insight will start arising in your life, that is, truths of your life that are valuable. It is recommended that you keep a journal for such thoughts, so one can utilize them for the future. This may be called an “Earth School” journal, or Insight journal, or whatever you want. The extremely distracting products of the entertainment and advertising industries impede our ability to concentrate, which lessens our ability to progress with meditative practice and Insight realization. Corporate (i.e. fascist/backwards minded) controlled media also hinders are ability to see through propaganda and get to the real roots of social/economic/political problems, so that we may actually solve them. For these reasons it is recommended that the amount of TV, movies (especially violent ones), commercial radio, corporate media, etc. that one takes into their mind is reduced as much as possible. Listen to public radio, watch public TV, play your own music (commercial free), watch informative and positive documentaries, etc. Also work to have billboard advertisements banned from your home town, as was done in Sao Palo, Brazil recently.
Awareness of Awareness (AOA) Meditation, Know Thyself Meditation: ending mind pollution by directly realizing the truth of oneself as pure, undifferentiated consciousness through Self Inquiry, connecting with one's blissful Inner Self/ Buddha Nature.
From “The Most Rapid and Direct Means to Enlightenment” by Michael Langford:
  1. Shut your eyes.
  2. Notice your awareness.
  3. Observe that awareness.
  4. Turn your attention away from the world, body and thought and towards awareness watching awareness.
  5. If you notice you are thinking, turn your attention away from thought and back towards awareness watching awareness.
When you step into the Now... gaps arise in between thoughts – spaciousness, stillness. You begin to realize how much vaster and deeper you are than your thoughts.”
-Ekhart Tolle, “Stillness Speaks”
Neurophysiologists will not likely find what they are looking for outside their own consciousness, for that which they are looking for is that which is looking.”
    -Keith Floyd, “Of Time and the Mind”
AOA meditation # 2 (from ”Mastering Your Hidden Self: A Guide to the Huna Way” by Serge K. King, p.118):
  1. [Practice the “Breathing Meditation” for at least 10 minutes to settle and focus the mind.]
  2. Ask yourself questions like these:
    Who is aware of sitting here? Who is aware of this body, these feelings, these thoughts? Who is aware of being aware?
  3. Keep asking such questions about every sensation, feeling or thought that comes into your awareness, without demanding, making up, expecting, or looking for any answers.
  4. After a time (sorry, I can't be more specific), you will break through into a greater awareness, which is the direct contact with your High Self.
Third Eye Meditation:
  1. Focus your attention in between your eyebrows (the location of the pineal gland, which is said to be a spiritual center in the body, along with the pituitary gland).
  2. You should feel a pull/pressure in that area after sometime, this is a good sign, and is showing you exactly where to focus your attention.
  3. Focus on that pull/pressure feeling for as long as you'd like, at least 15 minutes would be good. You can use that point, your “third eye”, as a focus for concentration building meditation, as you can do with your breath (see breath meditation).
  4. Also try incubating, or envisioning, a lucid dream after activating your third eye through this mediation, just before sleep; you may find your success in becoming lucid while dreaming will be greater. Also try the Huna manifestation meditation/visualization after this mediation, you may find it accelerates and compliments the manifestation process.
The Law of Attraction
This practice is explained well in the book “The Secret”. There are other sources on this topic, as the book and movie explain, this is not a new philosophy, but one that has been shared by various individuals through history.
Quantum Physics
[G]eneral relativity and quantum theory are simply two complimentary aspects of a deeper theory that will involve a kind of cosmic consciousness as the key concept.”
-Michael Talbot, “Mysticism and the New Physics”
  • Interconnection as the fundamental political, social and spiritual idea for positive change. If our minds are interconnected to the material world, what interaction and manifestation may be possible?
  • We must better ourselves, removing our insanity and evil so that the world, which our minds are interconnected with, can lose its insanity and evil as well.
Lucid Dreaming
You are the originator of your own dreams. This allows you to take responsibility for your life situation.”
-Mindful Recovery, p.186
Lucid Dreaming can compliment and strengthen Huna/LOA/Religious Science/AOA practice when the dream manifestations aren't changed upon becoming lucid in the dream, but instead are interpreted as subconscious symbolism, so that subconscious blocks to the manifestation process can be directly confronted and surpassed.
The basic process:
  1. The first step is always to keep a dream journal.
  2. As you're falling asleep say to yourself "When I'm dreaming tonight, I'll know that I'm dreaming."
  3. Try "incubating" a dream by visulaizing something to appear in your dream, that will remind you that you are dreaming when you see it.
Most people have been taught that dreams are of little significance, and to pay little attention to them. In so doing, we end up ignoring about a third of our entire life, that actually has very profound potential for personal benefit and growth. We've also been conditioned to ignore our waking “dreams”, or hopes for the future, our passions and active use of our imagination. This keeps the destructive status-quo in place; human creativity and imagination are the main opposing force to the current paradigm, since it survives by convincing the populace that there is no better alternative worth supporting.
If one advances confidently in the direction of his [or her] own dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he [or she] has imagined, he [or she] will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” -- Henry David Thoreau
The greatest achievement was, at first, and for a time, but a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn. The bird waits in the egg... Dreams are the seedlings of reality.”
Pure Consciousness is Compassion”
Freedom is Happiness”
Synchronicities
A term created by Carl Jung, on a phenomenon that has been studied by mankind long before him. Otherwise known as meaningful coincidences, synchronicities are a personal experience of guidance through seeming random events, images, sounds, actions, thoughts, etc. that correlate to one another, usually in a short time frame, possibly even simultaneously, giving one a message or indication of something. This could be an impression that is non specific to anything action-based, as in calling for a certain action to be done, and just be a message that one is “on the right track”, or could be very specific: get this book, talk to this person, look into this topic, etc. The ancient Mayans sought to live in a constant state of synchronicity, wherein the interactive and interconnected nature of Reality was continuously perceived. Being in such of state constituted a higher level of consciousness where one was in direct contact and communication with a Divine Intelligence, and Infinite Intelligence, that was seeking to help you in your pursuits of a better, happier more satisfying life.
You may want to keep a synchronicity journal, along with your dream and Insight journals (they could all be in the same book), to remind yourself of the interconnectedness that you have perceived to varying degrees in your past.
Most of us find synchronicities to be unusual occurrences in our lives, but for the Mayans, it was the norm; synchronicity was a constant reality that they strove to stay a part of, a reconnecting with out divine and eternal selves.”
People that are weary of the idea of guidance, because of an association with hierarchal power structures (which is warranted), may be to quick to disregard synchronistic guidance if it enters their lives. If this is the case for you, consider the possibility that the guidance is actually coming from a part of your self (your Higher Self, as described in Huna), that is connected with the outside world in a very conscious way. Synchronicities may be our Higher Self communicating with us through interaction with the material world, giving us guidance through synchronous events, images, etc. similar to how our subconscious mind communicates to us through dream symbolism...
Common questions concerning synchronicities are: “How can I increase the amount of them in my life?” And “How do I know it was a real synchronicity and not just some imagining of my mind?” The answer to the first is simple: by purifying your mind and body, being more fully in the present moment and more open minded to the possible channels of synchronicity, you will be much more likely to experience them more often. The answer to the second question is also simple: If it is not completely obvious to you that a synchronicity has occurred, it probably has not. One of the characteristics of synchronicity is much they stand out to us in our daily life; they are so unusual, so beyond a chance occurrence, that we take notice right away. It's not something that has to be thought about much, it is more an intuitive, and therefore instant, experience.
Tantra
Tantra can be considered the “Middle Way” of Sex; it is the balance between indulgence and denial, so that higher state so f consciousness can be reached, realizing Interconnectedness through loving union, a transcendental sexual embrace where the two become one with the Universe. Also referred to as an “Alchemical Marriage” in Gnostic Christan teachings, as described in the movie “Sex: The Secret Gate To Eden”, found on www.gnosticteachings.org. The crucial practice, that discerns quality Tantric teachings from the rest, is the insistence on retention of the male orgasm accompanied by ejaculation; this is fundemenatla to channeling the Kundalini energy upward through the seven Chakras, until it reaches the Third Eye and Crown Chakras, which “illuminates” or “enlightens”, the practitioners to Higher Truth.
Book recommendations:
Also crucial is the complimentary teachings and practices found in the book “Tantric Reiki” by Gail Radford.
